Flowerhorn cichlid back from brink of death. Help!
I have a flower horn cichlid that is about ten years old. About a month ago she got ick, and it was cured easily, but apparently brought on swim bladder disease. And for the past month she’s been dying, of starvation really, as she couldn’t eat. She’s been curled up and upside down in various ways, and becoming more and more emaciated. I figured it may be her time since her lifespan should be about eight to ten years.
Then, the other day, I see she’s sitting upright on the gravel, and although weak, came up and ate as much as she could before becoming exhausted and relaxing on the bottom again. We’ve done this routine for three days now.
So what do I do now if whatever caused the bladder disease has cleared? I’d like to improve the water quality, as we’re past the time I should give the gravel a cleaning and do a water change, but I’m afraid to do anything inside the tank. Is there a water supplement (like they have for fry) to give her nutrients in the water?
Help! My fish has come back from the brink of death. What do I do now?
Once a week I would vaccum one half the gravel and the following week ,I would vaccum the other half.
Swim bladder disorder is not really a disease but rather a symptom usually caused by deteriorating water conditions. Improving the water conditions through regular weekly or twice weekly 30 to 50 percent water changes can only help the fish not harm it.
Would also see that fish is getting proper foods and I would remove any uneaten food within an hour after feeding. Google info on foods for flowerhorn cichlids.
Is also possible that the fish is nearing it's final days but i feel that making it more comfortable with improved conditions, might give the fish some relief.
