Fish Tank Help
i have recently setup a bigger comunity tank, iv'e added the water treatments and setup the temperature to 27-28 'c, however this weekend we wanted to add some new fish. 5x Platy's and 5x Mollies, 4 of the Platy's died within 24 hrs.
My current tank setup is
Over 60GAL Tank, between 2-3 Ft.
5x Neon Tetras
1xRed-tailed black shark
iv'e tested the nitrate in the tank which came back with 0, i have noticed that 1 of my guppies is acting strange, it will swin normally for a couple of mins then brush himself against things. im hoping it's not ICH, what is the quickest treatment
Did you let the tank cycle before adding all the fishes? in different area on the forum, there are good recommendations.
you said you just set up a larger tank...what did you do with the old filter and media? did you transfer them to the new tank and filter? is it possible some of the bacteria died during the transition time? any time several fish die at once i always suspect an ammonia spike or some sort of water quality issue. you should test your water for ammonia and nitrites.... those numbers should be 0 and you should have some nitrates.
if all the fish that died were new additions, it could also just be a matter of how you acclimated them when you brought them home, or it could be just sickly fish from the store.
testing for ammonia and nitrites is really the only way to tell what is going on. i would not treat with any medications until you see other symptoms and also know those numbers.
The nitrates being 0ppm tells you that the tank is not cycled unless you have lots of active growing plants...what are the other water pram number, ammonia, nitrite, pH....
How much and how often on the water changes and when was the last one.......
What if any, kind of additives used and how much and what for.......
What kind of pleco do you have?
