is there any types of pleco that could go in a 15g?

Falina 03-07-2007 11:47 AM

had a wee look for you. apparently zebra and queen arabesque plecos will only grow to 3 1/2", and candy striped ones to 4" but you might want to check this out yourself before getting one. they are some of the nicest looking plecos i have seen, and also the more expensive

hope this helps

what about clown plecs?

Falina 03-07-2007 11:57 AM

max size 5-6", pushing it a bit maybe. this information is all just from doing a wee search on google or checking btw. im no expert by any stretch of the imagination so dont take everything i say too much to heart. what other fish do you have in the tank out of interest?

tom14 03-07-2007 12:02 PM

nothing yet

but i want

dwarf gouramis (pair)
guppies (at least 2 male)
3-4 peppered cories

going to be in a 15g. the question was really just hypothetical but if i can id love a plec!!

Falina 03-07-2007 12:08 PM

maybe a zebra plec if you want one then since theyre smallest, and imo theyre probably the prettiest as well, cause you really dont want too many fish in the tank, itll just get dirty easier and they wont be as happy. if you get only what you said a zebra pleco would probably be alright especially since they dont swim about a lot but make sure you do regular water changes and have a decent filter since the cories and pleco are mainly bottom dwellers, where there is the least oxygen.

i have an air stone to help with oxygen.

also i can't afford zebra plecs. cheapest i've seen is £70, that is approx.
$130-$140!!!!! :!:

no need to convert things into dollars, pounds will do just fine - never can be bothered figuring out exchange rates.

theyre quite pretty too and it says theyre £22.26 which is much more affordable. if theyre that price online then theyre probably similar in the fish stores. i take it since you were putting prices in pounds there that you live in britain and not america? on the extreme off chance that you live in or near glasgow then (??) theres a store i was in only today that had all sorts of plecs, ill probably be in relatively shortly so ill have a look and see what theyve got and let you know.

sorry i live no where near glasgow and i live in the south. are you sure i could have a queen arabesque with my othe fish i want??

Falina 03-07-2007 12:44 PM

oh hold on! like i said im not an expert and got the information just by doing searches. from what information i saw it would seem ok but they seem to need quite specalist conditions:

Water should not have any nitrites and as few nitrates as possible. Dissolved oxygen level as high as possible. Fast current.

Fine sand, as much cave as possible, the one in the current will be the preferred ones. Driftwood but only for aesthetic purpose as they don't chew it. Dim light Plants can be kept as L260 don't eat them.

Gouramis like gentler currents so maybe not a very good match but i wouldnt see it being a problem for guppys or corys. the sand that the pleco would need would be quite good to make sure the cories dont damage their barbells actually. just depends really what fish it is that you want the most.
