What happens to plants shipped from 1500 miles away?
Ok. I bought the Plant Pkg2 from SweetAquatics and they are on their way. I have a couple of questions though. I am sure there is some stress in the whole 3 day kidnapping from home and the plants will react accordingly. Are they gonna drop leaves? What do I do if the plant has foliage that is not looking good? Is it common for them to look not so good before perking up? I know, why worry before it happens but if I have some idea then I can just roll with it. You know, kinda like the stockmarket. LOL.
I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. The way mine came packaged you could have thrown them off a building a not hurt them.
SA ships their plants wondefully!! You have nothing to worry about.
I ordered mine during a blizzard...plants arrived beautifully!! wrapped in soaked newspaper with a heating pad for cold weather....Miller is right, you could throw them off a building and you'd be ok.
in my plant build thread, somewhere around page 8 or 9, I took pictures right after i took them out of the box, check it out! they are quite safe. smart move going with SA
Yep, nothing to worry about.
I got a shipment of dwarf baby tears... They're a little flat (they look like moss... lol) but still healthy. 2 days later, they're starting to perk up.
Basically I'd say they'll be healthy, and look good when they come in.. but they'll likely perk up even more after a while.
Shouldn't lose any leaves or anything. Just expect them to go from good to better. :)
Only addition to the above concerns the swords (Echinodorus) plants. If they were grown emersed (most nurseries do), the existing emersed-form leaves will yellow and need to be removed when the new growth from the centre is sufficient. This is natural. If the plants were grown submersed, the existing leaves will be submersed form and may or may not yellow. This is natural with this species and no cause for concern provided there is new growth which will always be from the centre of the crown on Echinodorus.
Crypts may "melt" within a few days, this is also natural when Cryptocoryne are moved or depending upon differences in water parameters, etc. Just leave them if they do melt (the leaves suddenly turn to mush), they will sprout new leaves within days or weeks, depending upon many things. This is also natural, and doesn't always happen but may. I have moved crypts between tanks with no issues, but I have also moved crypts within the same tank and had a meltdown.
