Late Maturing Male?
I went and bought a breeding trio of silver mollies the other day, but now I'm thinking I got two males instead.
The definate male has a slightly larger dorsal fin then the definate female, and has a long and very obvious godonopium (sp?). The fish in question is a little over 1 1/4 inches long with a clamped anal fin which it can move from side to side, but is not firmly attatched to the body like the female's fin. The fish did flare it once and it looked like a female's fin, but it carries it clamped. The fish's dorsal fin has been clamped too, so I haven't been able to get a good look at it.
How old (or long) are these late maturing males before they get a definate male anal fin?
Has anyone ever owned a late maturing male?
one of my guppys that i had from birth took just less than 6 months to fully develop ....not sure about mollys tho :):):)
I had bought a guppy that I was positive it was a female. (And I'm not stupid or anything I know how to tell the difference) And after having it a few weeks it like slowly transformed into a male. It might be a female... sometimes when they are scared or stressed I notice they keep their fins closed. But it could be just a late developing male (at least, this can occur with guppies so probably mollies). I don't think females can move that fin "Side to side" (which I've seen males do) but I guess all you can do is wait and see what it turns out to be.
yeah thats how i knew this "female" guppys was male....he would like bent that part of himself :):):).....and i think it is the same for mollies
