Do kissing gourami make bubble nest
Hi' I have 4 kissing gourami fish.I have had them for around 4 years' they are for ever kissing each other and twirling around. What i like to know do they make a bubble nest there is never any signs of one.I do have a few floating plants in the tank Thanks.Mark
Wow, how big is your tank??? it must be pretty big to keep 4 grown (Helostoma temmincki) kissing gourami, I know they breed at a smaller size maybe 5-6in. by being 4 years old I am sure that they have reached close to full grown 10-12in...impressive fish...for sure......these are really cool fish, I was never able to get fry to live very long, just a few days and dead......this was about 15 years ago so some info may have changes since I tried on breeding these guys and raising fry...lol....Mine were about 8inx5in when they first spawned...they can be real tank busters for sure...but such cool fish...now I miss them...lol....
They spawn like the Betta splendens and embrace but they don't build nest, their eggs are lighter than water and float, hatch in 24-28 hours at 80-81F water, no care or anything by either parent and if they don't eat the eggs they usually leave the fry alone as long as you have some floating plants and in aged tank you should have microorganisms for the fry to feed on and NHBBS, white worms etc...but I never made it that far, I removed my pair once I got eggs after the third try and failure with fry to see if that helped..good luck let us know how it turns out and what you did.......
Hi' Thanks alot for your help and time.My tank is 4FT long the 4 fish are around 7 inches long.I'll have to keep a closer watch on them.Mark
Good luck...I hope you have better luck than me....and it is so much fun trying.......regardless......love to see some pic......this brings lots of great memories back.....lol......these are really neat and fun fish to have.......
keep us posted.....
The eggs float?
That must be really awkward for egg bound females.
