What plant can withstant current from filter outflow?
I posted another topic because I think the thread topic was too vague.

I need to know which plants can be planted directly beside the filter outflow. (It's a HOB filter- they have to withstand a downward current)

I was thinking, maybe one of these:

Amazon Sword
Corkscrew Val
Dwarf Sag
Water Wisteria
Creeping Jenny

I might go ahead and try the hornwort... it would be perfect.

Thanks for your help guys! I want to rearrange my tank and right now the area around the filter is empty...

Is this a new trend in posting where you ask a question, answer it and then thank yourself for answering it?

LOL. I was thinking the same thing. Redchigh, you can try defusing the outflow as well. I've seen people take a small water bottle/coke bottle/ whatever and take the label off and cut it along the glue line. Then you can just wrap the bottle along the outflow and the water will stream to the sides instead of forcfully down in the tank right on 1 plant. I have never tried it but have seen it done with huge success.

Species of the Echinodorus (sword) genus are ideal for this situation. First, they are sturdier plants; especially some of the larger like E. macrophyllus and E. bleherae, or nearer the substrate one like E. parviflora "Tropica" is ideal--these species are all covered in our Plant Profiles section. Second, being Echinodorus they are heavy root feeders which means the problems associated with faster water flow over leaves [I explain the issue in Part 3 of the stickied series] is not so critical as it is with stem plants for instance.
