well i would say it would have benn .....wild platy breed with another platy and down the line 1 of the fry will have developed a little bit of red on it then they would have bred this platy with another platy that had red on it then they would have bred that with a black 1 and then the micky mouse platy was born ......in all this i guarantee there was a lot of inbreeding :):):)

O.o seems like the design must have come out somehow rather than selective breeding. Seems like it'd be very hard to get a perfect design on the end part of the platy... never seen a wild platy maybe it's naturally there?

But umm I think there's gotta be a different way than just selective breeding? :X Well actually I still have no clue how they make different guppies colors so I guess it's possiblee...

Not sure but this looks like a somewhat wild platy:

The two spots might have just come from the wild platy... maybe to look like eyes for preditors? And then they just went from there? Alsooo, the breeders should do something with the strips and spots! they would make for some cool looking platies!!!

They probably weren't looking for that mickey mouse shape, but it just occurred with selective breeding for something else.
I don't know how it could arise from anything other than selective breeding.

Well looking at the natural one (if thats what some natural platies really look like?) it coulda been a "fake eye"..
