Question about schooling
Just a general question...
Is it cruel or mean to not put schooling fish in schooling numbers? (Example, buying 3 instead of 6-10)
Does it overly stress them? Or do they only need schooling when there are more aggressive fish sharing the tank with them?
I would prefer to keep fish in a large group if their tankmates look intimidating to them particularly the angelfish. I have no problems whatsoever with keeping some of my tetras in a number of less than 6. But that's because I have moved my angelfish away and no other fish can be intimidating more than the shy discus which the tetras do not perceive as threats anyway.:dunno: I still have my lone black neon tetra waiting to have companions but my friend's stupid supplier hasn't sent him any tetras at all at the moment. How disappointing.:sarcastic:
Re: Question about schooling
Lets take the glass fish, by itself it is very stressed often to the point of death, with a school it is much happier.
But now look at cories, many people have had them in pairs or even by themselves with small amount of problems, same goes with zebra danios
But also note that all schooling fish act much more cheerfull and more wild-like in schools, just some can take it while others cant.
How about Rainbow fish?
Fish can't count! As long as there's a second fish, the first fish will think he's surrounded by hundreds of them.
