Convict pair?
 

Hey guys.

I have 1 Convict in my tank at the mo and was wondering if i get another, will the pair of them team up and fight with my malawi's or parrots?

If it's the opposite sex then yes they will pair off and your tank will go to hell. You will have very stressed fish and more babies than you know what to do with.

so if i get another male will that be ok?

yes another male should be okay but be sure it's a male.

Would you realy put convicts in with Mbuna's? I wouldnt if it was me.
Dont they need diffrent water's? ph ect...

wel my convict is fine in there with them. so i guess yeah it is ok

If I had to pick one new world cichlid to put in a mbuna tank it would probably be a convict. They're really mean and they can adapt well to rift lake water parameters. The reason I still wouldn't do it unless I was forced to is because of difference in diet. The convict likes much more protein in its diet than the mbuna so it would be hard to give it the protein it needs without giving the mbuna too much protein.

Me personally wouldn't do it but everybody isn't like me. Convicts can live in high ph because some parts of central america has high ph like into the 8's. Yes im sure the convcit would appreciate more protien that the mbunas couldn't handle but they can live off good quality pellets and flakes but they probably wouldn't be as colofull. Just make sure your not keeping "soft" mbunas with them. Again personally I like to keep american and african seperate but again that's just me.
