does Apistogramma cacatuoides have a common name? ive bred them multiple times and it can be a pain telling people what they are
Apisto Cichlid is what most people call them.
Cockatoo Dwarves. :D
Apisto Cichlid could also mean A. agassizii, A. borellii, A. nijsseni, or any of the other couple dozen species of Apistogramma which have very different markings and colors. Anyone who knows they have A. cacatuoides specifically calls them Cockatoo Dwarves, Cockatoos, or by their scientific name.
If you would say cacatuoides in a conversation with anyone who knows cichlids, they would know what fish you were talking about. Isn't that all that matters?
