looks like algae, i think, i have it on my rocks and real plants too. I scrape it off now and then as i heard to much of it can be bad, but its natural and you will always get some in a tank. I see my fish sucking on it sometimes as well.

I left it for a bit long b4 i cleaned it off and when i did the algae clouded up the tank and i needed to unclog the filter the next day :?

hope this info is correct/helpful

The brown stains indeed are diatoms. Otos would love to consume them.:) Diatoms will naturally appear in newly-setup tanks but should disappear as the tank matures.:)

Oh sry i didn;t mention tht my tank is a month old, so is it algae or diatoms.

in both cases whts my options are, like hw i get rid of it (anything i can buy frm petshop to fix) or any fish can clear this...all suggestions r welcome

its called brown algae but the correct term for it is diatoms. It is readily consumed by otos (i had a brown algae problem, introduced 2 otos and within 5 days the glass was sparkling clean). There isnt much to worry about this, if you dont want otos just clean it of with an algae brush, it is very easy to clean off.
