Convict mating behavior?
Today, I purchased a 2 inch female convict to mate with my pink 2 inch male.
The moment the two met, they did the standard lip-lock.
After this, they settled down and went off in other directions.
Within a few minutes, and continuing now, every time the male sees her he chases her, but doesn't attack.
The female doesn't seem too stressed, because she still swims around and is eating.
Is this mating behavior?
PS- 29 gallon, 2 large pots, 1 small pot, and a rock crevicy area., 80 degrees.
PSS- I think that the pink one is a male because of his lengthy dorsal and anal fin, and the other is normal convict variety with shorter fins and the orange-yellow stomach.
Actually, the two of them have REALLLY settled down now.
Almost to a point where I think they're going to breed.
And now I think I have my answer.
The male *pink* was just trying to be near his "mate."
Now all they're doing is swimming together. *at least the male's staying near the female"
AND now they're back to fighting.
I'm thinkin now that it's girl-girl here.
One I know is female for sure but here's the other:
The color says female, but the fins say male.
Which is it?
i dont think its mating behavior as a pair will start breeding the moment they settle in breed cons at your own risk you cant pay aquatic dealers to take them
Your "pink" convict is actually a "marble" convict (the black in it) - and its a female. You sex marble AND pink convicts the exact same way you sex regular black cons...orange belly means female, and yours definitely has a very orange belly :)
