i have a 29gal tank
i have been very busy the last few days so i haven't paid attention to the the tank.
well it looks like my tank has been around 90F for at least a day.
How detrimental is the high temp to my fish?
6 zebras , 2 silver dollars ,1 angel and 1 pelco
the dollars and the angel are still small about 11/2 inch tall
That is extremely high. Do you have any idea how it got so high?? The only thing you can do is GRADUALLY bring the temperature back down. A word of advise. Silver Dollars are shaoling fish that should be kept at 3+, preferable 6+. However, only having a 29g tank, your Silver Dollars will outgrow your tank rather quickly. If they aren't rehomed they could very easily end up with stunted growth and some major health problems down the road.
I had that happen to me once due to a heater malfunction. You may need to buy a new heater.
Most likely the heater broke and is constantly on! Unplug it ASAP! And buy a new one if you can so you can lower the temperature back gradually! It could have damaged your fish but they might be fine if you take care of it ASAP.
Whew! I told my wife about the temp being high.....she told me the temp tape was low (70F)
she turned the heater to max and forgot to turn it back down!!!!!
I guess its time to teach the wife proper fish care.....
Mistakes can happen, but at least your fish are ok, right?
Yikes! I agree. Either teach your wife about fish care as she might enjoy the hobby with you as well, or simply say, "Look but don't touch". Hope your fish are doing okay!
