29g to 55g - Help with Stocking
I'm going to be moving my fish to my 55g (have the filter hooked up to the 29 right now to seed it before I set it up - the 29 will be sold)

Here is what I have, I would like some suggestion of what to add.

Sm. Angelfish
9 neon tetras (I understand they may become food for Angel)
2 Otocinclus
1 Mystery Snail
5+ Ramshorn snails

Plants and driftwood...

I was thinking of adding some Cardinal Tetras to replace the Neons once they are gone.

Also, I really like my snails and plants so I would like to have something compatible with those. The Angel I could give or take...

I have 5 angels with 8 black neon tetras. The angels leave them alone. People say that angels eat these tetras. In my experience it's not happened.

Not to challenge your experience, but when it comes to predation size matters. How big are your angels? Too, black neons are quite different - they are a deeper bodied tetra, and are larger. The torpedo shaped neons are just physically easier to eat. I would go with black neons - they are great fish!

My disclaimer is always "in my experience" because I realize that each aquarium is different and all fish are also different. My angels that don't eat tetras may be different from someone else's that do. My largest angel is about 2.5 to 3 inches. Not including fins and tail. In the fish store that I frequent they have angels that are much larger in display tanks with what look like neons but could very well be cardinals. I think the blue and red with the angels look nice but I opted for the black neons. Something cool about them. I don't know what it is. The decision of neon vs. black neon vs. cardinal all comes down to a personal preference in my opinion.

The decision of neon or cardinal comes down to how many times you're willing to quarantine replacements for dead fish IMHO. Neons aren't very healthy anymore due to inbreeding to meet the demand. I will always opt for the cardinals. They shoal better as well.

From what I've seen of people's accounts, neons are really hit or miss. You can get healthy ones if you're lucky. And like flint said, sometimes you have to buy 6 to add 2 to the school.
