Floatee Alternative OK so I have a small problem: I would love to get a floating plant for my tank (as some of you may remember from older posts) and I was given some very good advice on which plants to get. My problem is that none of the LFS around here actually carry floating plants. That leaves an internet order of floating plants but given where I live and the temperature here this time of year, no reasonable company that ships aquarium plants will ship this time of year so I have to wait until May or even June at the earliest before I can order plants online. Is there anything else than a plant that can be used as a floating object in an aquarium to provide cover for the fish until I can actually get my hands on a floating plant? I'd love to hear what people have done/tried and what happened with their experience. |
i saw at pestmart fake floating duck weed and other plants....this may be a good alternative until you are able to get some one to ship to you...my LFS doesnt carry floating plants either but they can order then in for me...maybe yours can too?? although..i do live in FL so shipping in the winter here isnt a problem.. |
Yes, you can get fake floaters for the time being. It'll serve the purpose you are looking for until you can get live plants in the Spring/Summer. |
Just use Pennywort. I find it looking nice and it develops real good not planted; the roots along the stem when you let it float grow to about 1.5" long and that's it and it grow quick enough to give you a good coverage quickly and whatever you don't want floating you can plant in the gravel. |
Ooooh, good idea Angel! |
U can buy take aquarium plants and just cut off the anchor and float them rather than planting them in the ground. Or you can use some bunch plants or some plants that don't need anchoring. and float those on the top. |
Seconding what Lisa said. If you can't get any real floating plants and all you want is cover fake floating plants will work. I have Pennywort floating in my tank and it looks nice. I want more in fact. |
i never thought of pennywort!! thats a good idea...i may just go get some for my 20 |
