Fish and Preferred Substrates
I recently lined the bottom of my tank with black sand and i was wondering if there are any fish that prefer a dark substrate, I know cherry barbs like dark bottoms and i can tell because the tops of their bodies are dark so they blend in. Any other species with this preference?
I believe most tropical fish perfer, or benefit may be more correct, with dark substrate. Especially the more timid, peaceful fish such as Tetras. It's not a big blast of reflection as light substrate would be and makes them feel more comfortable.
thanks for the info, i guess u cant go wrong with black.
I agree. Fish feel more comfortable over darker substrates and the dark substrates tend to bring out the colors in your fish nicely.
Too bad black sand's so expensive!
