"Freshwater" Pipefish care?
Well, like most species that have "freshwater" in their name, it's brackish, but some species can live in straight freshwater. I'm looking for info on the freshwater pipefish, Enneacampus ansorgii. I know they need live food, like Daphnia and microworms, and they should have no tankmates other than their own kind because they can't compete for food. My lfs has them on their special order list, and they're checking on the price overnight. Should I get the fish, depending on the price? I really want pipefish, but I don't know if I could handle the expenses of shipping combined with live food and other necessities. For example, I would only want up to four pipefish (breeding), but I would probably just get one first and see how well it survives in my tank and how well I can care for it. But then I would have to pay two shipping charges. And they like sand, so even though sand doesn't cost much, I would have to take about 2 weeks to change substrates in my tank. I found some online, if anyone wants them, here. At miscellaneous fish. But they're out of stock right now. These are the most exotic fish I have ever seen!

Here's a pic:

This is the best picture I could find online, but it makes the fish look different than it does in real life. Go to youtube and look it up.

Mikaila31 02-11-2010 01:06 PM sometimes gets them in, but you got to be fast. He doesn't like to ship in winter though, so you would have to wait....
