Female Molly Sluggish After Giving Birth
So I bought a female dalmatian molly yesterday and she had like 15 babies that night. (I took them out of the tank and they are in a separate nursery tank)
Anyways she is really sluggish and barely moving all day, just hanging out under the lip of the filter, any idea why?
Is it normal?
ermmm...has she eaten if she has then shes just recovering....if she hasnt eaten then she may not be able to recover.....keep your eye on her....good luck with babys anyway
Thanks, she started doing headstands last night and i tried to get her to eat some cooked pea but she didnt. She was dead this morning. The babies are doing good though :)
awwww....some females just carnt hack having babys ....she was probs a young female...sorry
Yeah I think it was her first time seeing as she only had 15.
she might have had more but she ate some maybe and im so sorry :( i know the feeling i felt hopless toward my 3 females that died.they all gave birth on the same day and then they all died 3 days later. al least we have the babies to remember mine by. but mine were gupppies.
yeah, I think I got them all before she ate any though because i was right there when she started giving birth, she did eat about 2 of the ones i had counted. So i had 13, 2 died, so now there is 11 and they are all doing great :)
thats good.do u think u can get pics?
Yeah let me find my camera :)
Question though, most of my fry are fine but out of the 12 so far only 8 are left (with 2 not looking so good)
Is this normal? Like in the long run it would be better to end up with maybe 4 because that is all I have room for. But was just wondering if it was normal. They are 5 days old. So just wondering if since they are so little right now if it was normal for some not to make it.
I hope your water qty. if fine. You could have taken the dead molly back to the store where you got it as most place have a fish return after so many days. You would have to bag the dead fish seperate and then bring a water sample for them to rule out water problems. Get a API test kit to test your water. If your tank is a new set up it might not be done cycling yet and having to many fish at once will throw off the cycle. You need to feed the baby fish crushed powdered food twice a day and do partal water changes to keep the water good so that the babies survive.
