Sick koi

One of our koi has been belly-up on the bottom of the pond for a couple of days, but is still alive. I imagine its either bloat or the swim bladder, but I don't know. How can I be certain what it is and what can I do to help him? Thanks.

I don't know much about koi... but any fish that has been belly-up for a couple of days is probably going to die... :/ at that point I don't think there is much u can do to help any fish.

Sick Koi

Hi Randy. I've been dealing with a problem just like yours in a club Members pond. It's difficult to say what the reason is as to why your fish is behaving this way. I suspected an injury or bacterial infection so I gave the fish a shot of Baytril. It did fine for a couple of weeks but I just heard from the Club Member and he says that his fish died. I have to admit I'm not surprised but I'd like to know what caused the death.
It could be that the fish got caught up in some ice at the top of the pond during a warm spell, it could be that it hurt itself somewhere in the pond and it could be bacterial or parasitic. With our Members Koi, it's body was bent along the side so that the fish was almost touching it's tail.
I hope that your Koi does much better.

Yours Koily, Lorraine
