Pot vs not P
 

Really quick question....

i started to order some plants online and it has some plants are potted and some are not...is there is difference between the two?? some of the potted plants are on sale and i didn't know if it made a difference...

I asked Mary at SA. The potted plants are grown emersed (above water). The non potted are grown submerged. Emersed plants grow faster and develope extensive roots and are less likely to shock when uprooted and transplanted. They will however, shed their leaves in time but not without new growth coming in behind it at the same time. Some plants look different in their respective growing class. What I mean is an emersed plant may have a different look once it sheds its leaves after being planted submerged. Submerged plants are in their natural form when you see pics of them.

Almost forgot...
I don't know 100% for sure as it may depend on the type of plant but at least some of the potted plants may/do contain more than 1 plant in the pot. The individual loose root plants are just one plant. Take a look at the dwarf onion and you'll see what I mean. Sweet Aquatics

It won't matter much at all Johnny once you get them and plant them in your gravel all will dev plenty roots and will grow (provided the right lights are there lol)

I have never had much success myself with potted plants. I am curious if you guys reccomend keeping them potted?

(It goes against my intuition to plant a pot!)

Have kept potted plants in aquariums where cichlids that liked to dig were present. Was only way I could keep the fish from uprooting them almost daily.

If your plants die on you then something within the set up of the tanks balance is not right (This being light- Co2/ Fish- Nutrition). If you'd like start your own post with all details from your tank and what had happened there; incl details like what kind of light you have.....Then all of us will gladly walk you through.

Did you take the foam stuff out & refilled it with gravel then to avoid root rot?

Yes, Took plants and placed them in clay pots with 50/50 mix of potting soil(no additives) and fluorite about half full, then topped the pots off with aquarium gravel.(NOTE) after potting, best to place the plants in bucket of aquarium water for a couple hours to allow air pockets to burp into the bucket rather than the aquarium.;-)

Ah ok.... Ever thought adding Hygrophilia's? They dev roots super quick and worked well in my Yellow's set up (well actually they were THE ONLY one's that worked there lol)
