Problems In Paradise

I have a male and female Texas Cichlids in a 75 gal aquarium. They get along sometimes when they are in "love". But lately the female has been chasing and picking on the younger male.
Until I get my new 120 a stand built and up and running what can I do to alleviate the conflict? Would adding some more plastic plants for the fish to hide in work? I want to keep both for a breeding pair.

Thanks!
Randall

More decor is definitely a good idea, especially if you can completely break up the line of sight between the two ends of the tank. How much bigger is the female than the male, and has there been any damage?

This kind of behavior is pretty common in cichlids, so hopefully they'll get over this little spat and move on with married life. Helping them through this tough time in their fishy lives would definitely be helpful, though.

target fish might help relieve the aggression. Im actually going through the same thing with some nicaraguan cichlids. Every once in a while the "female" will stand up to the larger "male" but she gets chased off. Lots of hiding places definatly helps. Convict cichlids might help to take some heat off the male texas. Worst thing you could just seperate them if it gets too serious.

Good luck.

The female is about 5" long and the male 3".
I've added a few other fish in the tank (not cichlids) but they just ignore them.

The female has tore up the males tail pretty good. I'll usually put in a divider, let his tail heal. pull the divider out and then a day or two later he'll be beat up again. :(

I don't get it, cause two months ago they were head over heels for each other. I thought the conflict was gone but now it's back again :(

Cichlids are real funny like that. Just be patient with them. Try seperting them for an extended period of time(weeks) that might help.
