I can't tell what type of plant that is from this picture, but it's not a java fern.

No not Java...but looks like one of the Bacopa's to me.

Now I second guess my first thought cause Bacopa's wouldn't built the air roots this dark brown.....Maybe one of these "new special" aquatic plants that not so aquatic after all (unfortunately they sell a LOT of these these days...)

Interesting that I saw this fern plant when I was rambling through the Freshwater Tropical section at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre yesterday. It was underwater, growing as a fern attached to wood, in a tank with an enormous puffer fish and something else I can't remember. African display. It reminded me of a fern in the garden. I'm sure I've seen it in fish stores, but no idea of the name. B.

i was thinking the same (non-aquatic) bc it looks an awful lot like a non aquatic fern.

btw makes a nice addition to the tank

You better up not to. I can only speak for the stores (pet chains) around here that sell these plastic things and ALL I seen there so far was actually non aquatic plants.....and because of that and the lack of TRUE aquatic plants that I's where I buy / have been buying mine now and am super happy (and they actually do NOT sell non-aquatic plants lol) Sweet Aquatics

I bought a plant at Petco the other day because I thought it looked pretty. It was in one of those containers and said Aquatic Plant. It was labeled Peacock fern. Well I looked it up on-line and it was not a true aquatic plant and it said that it would die underwater after a few months. I have a aquarium plant book and it was not even it that book. I was so mad that I took it back. I did not open it yet and had a receipt. I told the employee that it is not a aquatic plant. He was just going to inform the guy that worked in that dept. I did get my money back. They should label it a terarium plant not aquatic.
