Weird LFS story

Yesterday we went to the (bad) LFS here in town just to see what they had in there, we noticed some blue rams that were really looking bad and of course I started to feel sorry for them and mulled over them for the rest of the day. Today I decided I would get two of them and keep them in the QT tank for awhile before moving them to the community tank. So today I go in there and tell the girl I wanted two of the rams and she starts firing questions at me "what size is your tank" "what other fish do you have in there" "How big are they" "How often do you vacuum" "How big is your quarantine tank" I was taken aback as I often buy fish there and no one has asked me a single question about my tanks. I answered with a puzzled expression on my face, all the while knowing that the rams in question had been slowly dieing off in (their) tank for about two weeks with no treatment whatsoever (a couple of them obviously had pop-eye). And then came the kicker--"Do you use salt in your water?" I said I used to but don't anymore and then she said "You need to, dwarf puffers are brackish fish" at which point I said that they were entirely freshwater, and she shook her head obviously not believing me. Anyway, just though I would share this entirely weird experience.

I thought they were brackish too... :?:

figure-8 puffers are brackish, dwarf puffers are 100% freshwater

sneak up to her, and pour salt in her hair and say, i think your a salt human, then dump some more around her.

Hhmmm...I'll have to do a bit more reading...

Ha! that is a good idea Musho, she was just really strange and nasty. I didn't mind the questions about the fish tanks, since I figured maybe she was just looking out for the interests of the fish..but considering they had done nothing to treat their dieing rams I wasn't impressed. She should also know what she is talking about.

I had a similar experience a long while ago when I wanted to have a goldfish tank. It wasn't working, the real problem was that I had purchased feeder goldfish for 12 cents at Petco. Anyway, I went to this local (bad) LFS for some advice and the guy told me right in front of my little girl "That fish is as good as dead, you started all wrong, I can't help you". As I stood there completely dumbfounded by his comment, he proceeded to remove dead fish from his tanks and toss them outside, all the while his butt crack was hanging out of the back of his pants and my 4 year old made sure to comment on it-out loud.

That was my first experience in fishkeeping. The fish of course died a few days later. I now know what I am doing and found a better LFS!
