The 2.5g is back...

Well, it seems I can't get away from doing the 2.5gallon Picotope. I just acquired a Suncoral (Tuastraea sp) and it was in bad shape. I hpe that i can save them. Here's a pic of them. I'll keep y'all up to date with what's going on.

I'm keeping them out of my main reef so that if they do die (or because they are dying) it won't mess my water quality. They are recovering.

Oh and BTW, I'm using LED's to light the tank. They are low power and don't put out much light (they were put together for my 55g as moon lights) so they are still coming out now more then when they were in the other tank. I'm feeding them and trying to encourage them to come out.

Thankfully these were free so no worries if they die, but i'd hate for them to die because the previous owner was careless and didn't spot feed them like they should have at least every 3rd day. I've fed them once and i can already see some responding. we'll see what all i can do for them. There are currently 22 visible Orange polyps (withdrawn, but still there) that can be seen more the half are dying back.

Kells, I have no doubt you'll be able to get them healthy and vibrant soon. :)

Only one day and already some progress. Sorry about the color. The light was lit with a yellow light...

Looking better already. Ive only had my aquarium setup for 2 days now, complete newb, and am going crazy over here! I found life in my tank! Im just simply amazed. Sorry for the hijack dude, I just had to tell SOMEONE! Ill be following this thread closely. Cheers

Good luck with those sun corals kells. I was given a cluster by a friend of mine because he couldn't keep them alive. I had no luck with them either. I tried spot feeding, but I think they were too far gone to save. I would feed the tank to get the polyps to show, and then spot feed the polyps. they lasted about three months before the polyps stopped coming out at feeding time...

I am fired up about following another 2.5 build! I was upset when I saw you dismantled this beaut the first time...:-(

LOL, no worries. Congrats. Maybe you can put a link to your thread showing what you found in this thread so that we can all share it with you!

Thanks. I'm hoping that i can keep them going for ever and spreading. This is a coral i have done much research on and have wanted since the beginning of my journey into corals. I didn't want to get them because they could be difficult to tend to. I"ll see how I'll fair though. I was sad to take the 2.5 down, but i just wasn't dedicating enough time to it.

Today is Day 3 and I fed Papone (a mix of shrimp, brine shrimp, krill, silversides, oysters and something else i forgot because it was almost 1year ago when i made it) and they seemed to respond to it, but i switched to "CoralFrenzie" to see how they are doing. This is a dry food and i need to use it up soon, but i may switch back to the Papone because they seem to respond to it so much more then the "CoralFrenzie".

I'll keep y'all updated and thanks for checking in. On Wed, i'll try to get some shots of the entire tank and from a couple of different angles just to see how well they are doing and to get a photo journal of them.

Sure thing, heres a link to my thread http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/s...on-reef-36293/ Try not to laugh to hard, Ive been keeping freshwater aquariums for years but since joining this site and seeing the SW setups I just had to try it! I dont even know for sure what I 'think' is alive actually is, lol.

Im looking forward to watching the progress with your Tuastraea sp, good luck! Cheers

Thanks. I'm hoping that if i can get these guys to comeback, perhaps i can sell a frag of them or trade for the black Suncorals or for a different shade and just have a suncoral tank... that would be very cool to me. I know someone in my Local club that has a tank like that, and i love it!
