Coffee. What's with it

So what is it with coffee? I used to never ever drink coffee. One small 8 oz. cup would have me flying around for hours. I've always been a hyper wound type of individual. I only started drinking it regularly not quite 6 years ago. Now if I don't have it I can't focus and get my head wrapped around anything. And if I miss my normal 20 oz. mug in the morning my whole days is just crappy. Is it really the caffeine or is it more just a mental thing?

I'm just starting my first sip and until this point my head is foggy. And judging by this emergency backup coffee because I'm out of the normal coffee it's going to be a bad day. This stuff is horrible. I consider myself a "mild" coffee snob. Only because I had a stove top percolator coffee pot and decided I would buy a drip. But if I was going to buy a drip I wanted a decent one to make good coffee not one of those cheap Black and Decker things. So I researched coffee makers and bought a Capresso. It's one of only a few available that are not commercial coffee makers that brew coffee at its proper temp of 200 F. I got it from Linens and Things online as their going out of business sale. It makes fantastic coffee. Even mediocre coffees it makes taste good. But not this coffee I have today. Meh... Time to get to Colorado Coffee Exchange for fresh roasted beans.

I read somewhere that the anticipation of the first sip of coffee is when the "high" starts. I can relate. I'm pretty much useless without it.

You addict!!! lol
I think its a mix of caffeine withdrawals & your head.
Like me, I don't drink much at all any more, just my 2 cups in the AM while I read the forum...but boy let me not have these 2 cups....not only do I not function right but I'm Mrs grumpy in person :-)

We used to have a Nespresso machine (for coffee & espresso) boy lemme tell ya that brew some nice juice lol had to leave it behind with the tanks thou (was all 220V) and now I'm back to the 'normal' coffee maker.

I prefer tea over coffee. I just never could get into liking coffee. Some of the flavored ones sound good, though.

I knew there was at least one of you types out there. lol I'm just playing. I can't get in to tea. It's like weak stained water or something.

I like my tea strong, just like some of you coffee drinkers probably like your coffee strong. I don't like decaf tea. Talk about tasting like stained water! lol

Uggggghhhh. Did the SAME THING this morning. About 1 tsp of real coffee left. Had to cut it with some old stale decaf that's been sitting in a bag in the back of the pantry for like a year.

Talk about a rough morning... Ugggghhhhh... Feel like an extra from Shaun of the Dead.

I like coffee, especially in the morning.

But if I don't eat heavy breakfast along with it, I get hyperacidity.

Have to have it. Growing up in the restaurant business you pretty much have no choice. Coffee gets you through the day. I can't live without my lil Keurig.

I think age has a lot to do with it. I didn't need it as much when I was younger. I used to bounce out of bed. Now I kinda slide and stumble out. I used to sleep so much better when I was a teen and when I was in my early twenties. A bomb could have gone off by my head and I'd have slept through it. Now I'm up all night. I hear every little sound in the house. I think all those things contribute. In my case anyway.

I think that as you get older, you start having sleep problems.
