Hi Dono and welcome to the Forum.
If ANY I'd chose hard plants with them in the hopes they don't like eating them too much, such as various Hygrophilia, Amazon Sword, Anubis. I'd def not even try fine and/ or stem plants :-)

I don't know if much of anything will eat hornwort, so you could give that a shot.

The one we inherited with our 40 gal ate hornwort like candy. :-(

Yikes, really? Hornwort doesn't look like it'd taste good at all. I guess silver dollars really aren't very picky about their greens.

Yeah. Don't think that fish had seen a live plant in about 2-3 yrs and it was hungry. :-D

The tank was cycling, so we a big hank of hornwort and a couple small swords in there from another tank to help. By the next afternoon, the swords were just nubs sticking 1/4" out of the sand. There were a couple leaves floating at the top of the tank that it was saving for dessert I spose. The hornwort was in about 5 pcs and half-eaten. Some places suggest overloading the tank with plants and maybe the SD will just nibble them all a little and not kill any. Might work I guess, but I think it would take a bunch of plants.

Try Java Fern, I've not read of anything eating that.

Some Anubias is also a hard plant for SD to swallow. Java Moss and Java Fern These plants I know they won't eat from experience.

My Silver Dollars love Java Moss, but it works out well if it's established. They will eat all the longer threads, but leave the new growth alone so it stays low and spreads.

The only thing I've found that will out pace their eating is Penny Wort. When I do large trimmings -4lb coffee can size- in my planted tank, I'll float the trimmings in my Gold Fish/Silver Dollar tank and it will last a couple of months before it's just stems. By then I'm due for another trim.

They will pretty much nibble on any plants. I find if I offer them large washed lettuce and cabbage leafs fairly often, they will leave most of the tank plants alone enough to regrow some.
