Took down QT. Had to leave filter media sitting in wet sump for last two weeks.
I drained my QT but not the sump. I simply haven't gotten around to it.
My sponges and matrix have been just sitting in the water it was in before for the last two weeks.
I feel bad but obviously I haven't been able to get around to getting it cleaned up.
QUESTION IS THIS. Can I just clean my sponges and rinse my matrix and use them over again?
I know that the bacteria it held before is all dead now and that they will probablly need to be Re- cycled.
But is it just a matter of giving them all a good good rinsing in some dechlorinated water? Or do I have to buy new sponge and new matrix?
Any advice or tips would be VERY MUCH appreciated...
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!:-)
Def do NOT have to buy all new media. You can use it. And if it had some heat along with having sat in the water you MAY be lucky and a amount of BB survived.
Just rinse the stuff out in tank water or dechlorinated water and all will be fine.
Naww, I know all the bacteria is probablly dead and that's ok because I have three other cycled tanks I can take water from .. Thank you for the response!:-)
Keep in mind that bacteria live on surfaces that come in contact with water (filter media, plants, driftwood, rocks, substrate, etc.) and essentially don't live in the water at all. There's really no point, then, in using water from a cycled tank as it's these surfaces that house the bacteria.
