If I have a biological water filter or protein skimmer, will these provide the necessary oxygen for the fish or do I need air stones as well? My filter is a wet/dry filter.
yes but it wont provide a good water current, you will need a powerhead to go with it
Pumping air in with an air pump does not actually pump in oxygen. It's the movement at the top of the water that exchanges the gases. So long as you have plenty of current you'll be all right.
It might look a little retarded. I have never seen an airstone in a saltwater tank. I dont like putting them in my freshwater tanks.
All thos bubbles bursting at the surface would create alot of salt spray too.
