Eheim 2026 maintenance

I purchased an Eheim professional II 2026 external filter from someone but it didn't have a manual with it. Set-up was dead easy and it's working great but what maintenance / cleaning etc should I be carrying out on the filter canister itself? How often should I be changing / cleaning the filters and Ehfimech? Also is there a specific filter / media set-up that anyone would recommend?

Thanks

Kenster

I set mine up with the 'balls' on the bottom then corose filter pads going finer & finer filter pads till the very top is a very fine filter pad.

I open mine up about 1x year; clean out the hoses; rinse a few of the very nasty pads out in tank water and put them all back in. I only then change any of the pads/ sponges when they falls apart which usually does take several yrs.

Of cause if you have something happening in your tank like a BUNCH leaf litter for some reason; anything where you notice you're output ain't as crisp any more as it used to be, then that means its clogged and i'd open it too and do what I said.
Just be SURE to only clean all the filter media in TANK water (in like a bucket) chlorinated water would destroy all your b. bacteria.

well, cleaned it today (in tank water:-)) gave all the media / sponges a good clean and have to say I was surprised at how much stuff came out of the media, the water was really black by the end of it. The water output in the tank is now visably improved so happy days, I did make a mistake when trying to reconnect the in and out pipes which resulted in a very small flood!!!!!!! Once I got the water stopped I checked online to see what I was doing wrong....problem quickly solved.

Anyhoo, done now so thanks again
