10 gallon planted tank layout ideas?
hi, so im new here and i came to ask about my new tank.

i have a 10 gallon tank, hood, lights, filter, heater, substrate everything.
i had a plan for a layout, but some of the things on here look a lot cooler than my idea. so i was wondering if anyone had any cool, yet easy-ish tank layouts for me?

hmmm well i just got a new 10 gallon from a friend of mine and i used black sand as a substrate and on the left of the tank, i put microswords then a tall triangular drift wood in the middle with an alage ball attached it so that it begins to grow on it. then on the front right, i put dwar baby tears. i hope to put some pix of it soon :D

First of Welcome!
Second: Check see exactly what lights you have there, plants only thrive under full spectrum around 6500 Kelvin ideally.

For plants.....there's a gazillion set ups to chose from really...maybe to narrow down what YOU like, you could look here to the left under my name Angel you'll see a tap called "Aquarium" all my tanks are listed there, all fully planted maybe you can look there what you like and I could guide you from there with names & amounts you'll need?!

ok well its for 2 rams and some tetras, and my light is an 18 inch life-glo, and i have the black aquarium substrate!

Narrowleaf Chain Sword
Dwarf Hairgrass
Dwarf Baby tears
Kleiner Bar Sword
Crypto's Wendetti (for a lil red 'splash')
Red Tiger Lotus
Dwarf Sagetteria
Rotala Indica (I would only plant this in the back as it gets tall)

Plants to be planted on driftwoord:
Anubias, Java Fern, Java moss

Baby tears are darn cute plants, planting them is the easiest if you get the plant, take it out of the pot, take all the foam stuff off it and tie it down in piece window screen it'll nicely & quickly spread on there

You can find pictures of the named plants in my tanks as well as here Sweet Aquatics

haha yea, baby tears rock! those plants look really good, but i dont know if my LFS sells all of them. They're mainly saltwater. Im about 2 1/2 hours away from sweet aquatics, would you suggest buying from there? I would pick up the plants, preferably.

Angel079 01-24-2010 01:18 PM

I have bought with them several times now and ALWAYS been competently satisfied. I know they do pick ups for locals too, so I'd just call Mary call in your order for them to prep it and pick it up...just talk to her how it works best (i'm in TN so I never done pick up lol).

awsome! well ill probably wait a few weeks, an then start buying my plants. Ill buy what my LFS dosent carry from there! thanks!!

Why wait? For a cycling or something? If you can (financially) add them to your set up right away that'd be real helpful for the cycle.

actually, im taking a short vacation at the beginning of febuary, and i dont want to leave the plants alone. i know i could use a timer for the lighting while im gone, but id rather not! i dont want to accidentally kill them!
