Cleaning new plants..HELP!

I just planted a 5 gallon tank. Is there something I should have done to the plants before putting them in the aquarium? I rinsed them off under tap water but didn't soak them or anything else. I'm worried I may have introduced something in the water because my betta has seems letharic since I put him in. However, I have 2 snails that are perfectly fine so far. Just looking for ideas on what pants could posssibly bring in the tank and if the betta doesn't make it, what I need to do to them so I don't lose another one. Thanks for all suggestions!

Doubt its your plants...Check the parameters, check you temps...any other visible signs?

After what we've been through the last 3 mos, I'm a little bit of a hydrochondriac. Did some research and found a suggestion for doing an alum dip on new plants (we were mainly concerned about snail eggs getting into the frog tank, but maybe this also knocks out parasites and/or bacteria?).

Aquarium planting tips and care

FWIW our Betta gets a little moody whenever we change anything around on him. Went after my hand the last time I rearranged his plants and acted weird the next day. Even when we moved him from a 2 gal to a 6 gal he got sullen for a couple days. He got over it. Happy as a clam now.

In 20 years I have never done anything to new plants, just bring them home and into the tank they go imnmediately. Often if they are in the plastic pots I let them drop down to the bottom and they sit there for a couple days until the pwc so I don't have to mess around in the tank just for them. But whatever, they are not treated with/for anything and to my knowledge nothing has ever come in with them, except snails, which I like anyway. B.

P.S., I agree on the betta question, just stress at the change.

Under the "a littel too late" heading, I now rinse them just to avoid bring algae spores into the tank. I have no proof that it goes any good however. Just makes me feel better.:-)

I had never done anything to plants neither. But when I added 2 java ferns from he store and had a neat ick break out next day...I now view that differently and will either relaly only buy the plnats online where I got them before or treat them, cause that was nasty coming from 2 plant additions....luckily my fish all survived the treatment thou.

I'm so frustrated. I acclimated him to the new tank, temperature is fine, yet he looks like he's going to die by tomorrow. I can't figure out what it could be. Maybe I didn't acclimate him long enough? I tested .25 for ammonia again so I did about 50% water change. He's just laying on the bottom with his fins closed. Looking all depressed. He was so happy and healthy yesterday. It's gotta be something with the water chemistry but I just can't figure it out.

I've never had a betta myself, but maybe you could post something on the betta section. I'm sure there are plenty of experienced folks who could help you.

Did you look through the Sticky in the disease section from Lupin I gave you about the fin clamp (or whatever its called)?
Your Betta may be sick...but it may well be unrelated to the tank matter.

Yeah, and he's looking worse. Poor little guy.
