changing from gravel to sand
I'm thinking of changing half my substrate from gravel to sand, will this affect the fish I have and is there an advisable way to go about doing this?
Maybe a Mod can move this to the general section rather then the Disease part?
The problem I foresee mixing gravel and sand it'll compact down real heavy if you mix it 50/50 and that'll cause you headaches over time cleaning. So you may want to consider something like half of the tank sand and the other side gravel and put some slate in-between against mix up. But it will not have a impact on the fish; most fish actually prefer sand over gravel.
also a note if you mix your sand and gravel like in layers the larger gravel will always work is way back to the tob as the sand settles under it.. ( i tried that and it was kind of wierd to say the least) .. personally if you are going to go through the trouble take angels advice and set up something between them to avoid hassles later
thanks guys, I am thinking of splitting it into 2 halves of the tank.
(sorry for posting in the wrong area)
