Hey all. I was wondering if anyone had any info about the bigger, most common suppliers online. For instance. I want to get the Rena Filstar XP 3 canister filter. Two of the common big named places want $185. But there is another place that wants $138. I'm not sure if I can name names so I'll just ask simply. Do some of these places sell refurbished stuff? I can't see how one of the places that I know has to be way bigger than the other and they want $184 vs $138. It's maddening. I can see a few dollars difference but $46? Then I got to wondering if the cheaper one might be refurbished. It doesn't state this but the way business ethics are any more it's hard to tell.
P.S. The place that wants $138 gets great reviews on another site that I check.
I am having great luck with this place: Pet Supplies | Dog & Cat Supplies, Pet Meds | DrsFosterSmith.com Pet Products Bought some things from them recently. Great customer service and FAST shipping. I can't remember if they have the Rena's but you can check. They have all kinds of fish supplies.
Also, I did notice that Petsmart online is cheaper than the store. I just ordered a classic Eheim filter (to add to my daughter's tank and then later only have that one going along with a sponge filter), and it was cheaper than most places....even cheaper than Dr. Foster's.
I can't think of the other places at the moment other than The Aquarium Guys, but they did not seem that much better pricing wise.
I'd check aquabid, ebay and this is the site I use for my supplies Pet Solutions
I also learned when I bought my recent Eheim, check the normal pet chain stores online for prices, in my case was almost half at Petsmart online then in the store.
Screw it. I hate beating around the bush so I'll name names since it's not meant with harm.
Drs. Foster and Smith want $184 as well as That pet place. I think Petsmart online wants that amount. Maybe a little less. Ken's fish want $137. That's a big difference. I've heard real good things about Ken's and Drs. Foster and Smith. But for $47 I wonder why Ken's is so much cheaper. They wouldn't be used. But may be refurbished?
Ive seen the Rena XP3 elsewhere cheaper than the two mentioned but not as cheap as Ken's. But the place escapes me now. A searching I shall go for the truth to my ponderings.
When I needed supplies to set up the 4 new tanks and shopped around online I found 9 times outta 10 that Drs. Foster and Smith has been more expensive on just about anything then any other place.
Unless its disclaimed as used or refurbished its new, otherwise they'd get in a butt load of troubles selling refurbished goods as new, same as computers.
Just for reference...check it out...Filstar XP3 Canister Filter and another one http://www.petco.com/product/14447/Rena-Filstar-Canister-Filter.aspx?cm_mmc=CSEMGooglebase-_-Fish-_-Aquarium%20Pharmaceuticals-_-783536&mr:trackingCode=4808EC15-8381-DE11-B7F3-0019B9C043EB&mr:referralID=NA
I will have to check out Ken's place. I have luck with Dr. Foster when things are on sale. The compact fluorescent bulbs are on sale right now for way cheaper than Petsmart's storefronts.....half the cost.
Good luck in finding the filter. Sounds like Ken's place is the way to go!
Wow, Ken's Eheim Ecco canister 2236 is a lot cheaper than what I ended up getting in the Petsmart store. I did not know about this place at the time though. I will have to save this place in my favorites. At least I still got the Eheim classic for a little cheaper at Petsmart online than what Ken is asking for.
Ken's fish place looks to be a great place to shop. Thanks for this thread!
Thanks, indeed! I had heard of Ken's but never shopped there until this thread popped up. A while back Aquariumguys started to go up in price and lately Drs. Foster and Smith have followed suit so it's nice to have another cheap online option.
