so i went to a new LFS today and they had some convicts there and i thought they were absolutly BEAUTIFUL!! and i am interested in getting yet another tank (maybe like a 30 or 40 gal) and i was thinking about getting a pair to go in there....so my thoughts are if i get a pair they are bound to breed....HOWEVER i will be set up to take care of the fry but once they are grown what to do then....i havent talked to my LFS to see if they would take them but i wanted your guys oppinion......
Well, you do have a tank with oscars and a JD, right? They could, uh, solve your fry problems, should they arise.
I agree with the above comment. No offense but convicts aren't exactly rare by any form of the word. They will be extremely hard to get rid off. Combined with the fact they can be prolific, it might be good to use a good number of them as feeders.
Hye molliefan i noticed you live in Pinellas Park
i live in tampa and was wondering if you know of any LFS near me?
i live near USF
yeah i have decided against the convict idea as they are prolific breeders and the more i looked at the other lFS today they have MANY!!!
@Brujo.....i actually just pulled out the yellow pages today to start looking for other LFS in my area and i found one in the yellow pages here for tampa...ill PM you more info
If you're looking for a nice cichlid in that size range, have you seen salvini cichlids? Nice looking fish. Very mean, though.
Salvini cichlids would be perfect. Some call them little guapotes because of thier teeth. You could also do blue acaras I think but that's a SA cichlid. There are plenty of memebers of the convict family that are not as common as convicts. The cichlids I currently have called flier cichlids are actually related to convicts but not as aggressive. You can check them out by looking at my tanks. Cutteri, honduran red pont, and sajica are also great looking fish that aren't as aggressive as convicts but still easy to breed. They are also not as common.
yeah, i have seen them in the store...they are very nice looking fish indeed!!
