golden mystery snail hasnt eaten in 3 days

hi i got my snail about 2 weeks ago, he was doing fine but the last couple of days he hasnt eaten and i found him out of the shell lying on his side i poken him and he retreated and then came out and moved a bit but he seems to be acting weird.

could something be wrong with him?

How does your water test for ammonia and nitrite? What foods have you tried? Blanched Zucchini is one of my snails favorites.
Mystery snails can not turn themselves over. They often fall from things, landing on their back. If this is the case, you will need to flip the snail right side up.

I've been feeding him algea eater tablets, I had to switch them the second day I tried to feed it to him. He would run away from the food, after reading the ingreedients I found out they had copper so I changed them for. Some with no copper but he won't even eat those anymore

ok well i tested the water

ammonia 0.25
nitrite 0.25
nitrate 5.0

i just added 3 guppies 2 days ago and that is when he stopped eating.

this what he looks like if i poke him he might move a lil but he doesnt even retreat he just twiches

Copper is EXTREMELY toxic to snails.I would completely drain your tank and refill with clean water.

Brujo 01-16-2010 04:57 PM

well i did a water change, i drained about 70% of thhe water and put fresh water in there, an i put some heavy metal remover in there just to make sure , how ever i when t out side and i noticed i have copper pluming in my house :( so im guessing that my water has a pretty high levels of copper in it

do you guys think he will die? he was doing good in the tank, he even survived the cycling of the tank but he started acting werid once i put the fish in there?

if you guys think he is gonna die im gonna separate him and put him in a bowl i dont want him to die, but if he does i dont want it to be in the tank and jeopardize my fish as well

Sounds like you have to move him anyway if you have high levels of copper in your tap water. I'm only guessing here bc I have zero experience.

Can you move him to something that you can always change with bottled water and conditioner?

Brujo 01-16-2010 05:20 PM

well my tank is only a 5 gallon so i could change the water with bottled water anyways, is there something i can add to the water to remove copper?

Romad 01-16-2010 05:46 PM

There's something called Copper Safe (it might be one word). I've never used it but you might give it a Google and see what's up.

Good luck.
