Very Merky Water!!
Occationly i put my fingers through the substrate to "plouge" it if you will. and the water will stay really merky, "dust" like for ages... like maybe 2 days... is this normaly. how to solve?
You have a couple of options. First, I see that you are using an aragonite or crushed coral substrate. Are you capable of using a gravel vac with this? If so, then you should be using a gravel vac with your water changes to accomplish the task of removing debris from the substrate.
Another alternative would be to use a canister filter with a diatom sleeve. The diatom filter will quickly remove particulate matter, and within an hour or so the tank will be crystal clear. Just realize that the diatom clogs quickly and needs to be removed shortly after use.
I'd use a gravel vac when doing w/c instead of only 'sucking' water out like you said you do. Give it a good vacuuming should do the trick.
vacume. never herd of that? is that an item? how does it work?
its like a hoover it sucks dirt and debris off the bottom of the tank and into a bag and the water is filtered back into the tank or you can attach a hose and have the water removed completly for doing water changes.
aw nice. i need 1. i just looked on "FLeBAY;-)" and saw some for about £15.00. is that about right? because i dont want to buy a tacky one that might break.
There's various diff models/ types, like mine you don't have to suck (to get a mouthful fish water) you shake it under the surface and sucks for ya....here's what these vacuums look like Python Gravel Tubes, Maintenance/Cleaning | Pet Solutions
Any/ All pet/fish stores you have there in the UK will carry these, the price can be anywhere from $5-50, something simple will do the trick thou.
Then you attach it to your hose and kinda run it either only over the gravel or slightly push it in the gravel, you'll see it sucking up all the brown stuff and clean your gravel that way.
Hope that makes sense now lol...otherwise I can post pictures tomorrow!? :-)
ok thanks. would somthing like this do the trick?
Eheim Sludge Extractor, Maintenance/Cleaning | Pet Solutions
hopefully cos i just brought it :D
You can probably youtube it and see someone else doing it so you can learn. That's what I did before my first water change...I learned from youtubers.
Of course, that was before I started tapping into the infinite wisdom of TFK!
Yup just hook up a hose to the one you got there and push it down in the gravel for you next w/c.
