Will swordtails live happily in my tank?
I am currently cycling a tank which is around 29 US gallons/24 UK gallons. When it is fully cycled the stocking list will be something like this:
5 white cloud mountain minnows
5 golden wcmm
1 BN catfish
2 cherry barbs
I would very much like to keep swordtails but after doing a bit of reading I am not sure if there will be room in my tank? Also, would the fish I already have be compatible with swordtails if there is room for them? If not, I have two other tanks running so could do some shuffling around maybe.
Any advice appreciated!
i think that there would be enough room for up too 6 sordtails but make sure you do a 1 male - 2 female ratio the fish that are allready in your tank will be compatible with the sowdtails
Really? I was thinking maybe a pair at the most! Would one female and one male be ok together, or would it have to be two females, one male?
Thanks for your reply!
Personally, I would just do a trio of the swordtails (1 male 2 females) and then work on your cherry barbs. What sexes are the two you have now? A group of six cherries (four female two male) will really start to show off the deep red coloration on the males, as they will compete with one another for the attention of the females.
Ok that sounds good for the swordtails. I have a pair of cherry barbs, the female was a rescue case and I just got the male to keep her company. I was actually thinking about trading them at the LFS tomorrow as I don't really want to devote too much tank room to getting more and I know they would be happier in the large group of cherries they always have at my LFS.
