I have two what I'm pretty sure are False Siamensis in my community tank (bought them at lfs). Does anyone know if it would be possible to put one of them in my 75g Mbuna community tank? I have quite a lot of brown algae that makes the tank look dirty even though it isn't.
Gyrinocheilus aymonieri brown algae elimination
Would it be possible to put a 4" Gyrinocheilus aymonieri in my 75g 48" Mbuna community tank to get rid of the ugly brown algae" The Mbuna aren't eating it. Thanks.
Mbuna will likely kill either of those fish. Whats the filtration you run on that tank? And how much/often are your water changes.
Honestly this issue youre having will probably need to be manually removed and maintenance stepped up a notch. Mbuna are poop factories and need a more serious maintenance schedule then many other fish.
OK, thanks. I won't try it then. I know there aren't very many fish you can house with cichlids, just wondered.
I do 25% water change every week and 50% changes about once a month. I scrub it off the rocks and comes right back. Do you think this is brown algae or diatoms (or are they one and the same)?
Could be either or even Cyanobacteria .. It can be a rusty brown color too. I'd recommend upping your water change to at least 50% with those poop machines ;-)
What's your filtration on that tank ?
