Otocinclus Missing !!

Hi guys,

I recently got two Otocinclus for my 45 litre guppy tank about maybe two weeks ago. I have recently noticed however that one is missing !!!

I moved everything, plants, the piece of wood, looked around the filter (where they hide) and even moved some of the gravel and stones, I can't find no scale or fin of him. I only have guppies in the tank, and I don't think he could have been tank up into the filter, the cover is too thin for him to fit through.

what do you think has happened ? the whole tank surface is covered by a lid, so there's no where he could have jumped up. I haven't noticed any remains on the bottom or top of tank.

what the heck has gone on ? the only thing I can think of, is he maybe died quite a while ago without my noticing, and the other otocinclus, guppies and shrimp ate the remains ? I am abit worried, if he did die, what caused it ? my water's always tested, I have recently been adding some fin rot medicine for one of guppies, and some plant food tablets in the gravel. any thoughts ?

I want to get another otocinclus, since the guy in the tank is there on his own :(

hi
sorry for your loss :-(
i would say he passed away, and the body has been eaten.
there can be any number of reasons it died, possibly ill in the beginning.
you can get more,if you have the room.

I have got another Otochinclus today since the other one in my tank was going mad looking for his buddy, circling the tank, not eating, now he's settled down.

for the life of my though I can't see how I didn't find a body. one of my guppies has died and I managed to find his remains @_@ and yet the otocinclus is bigger than him @_@ one of life's mysteries...

So it may seem @_@ when I found my little guppy there was barely anything left of him apart from his actual small body... :squint:

don't know if it was the shrimp, the otocinclus...or cannibalistic guppy tribesmen !

if you want my honest opinion…it's probably all of them.

I read what you wrote, about it being covered and no way to go up.... Having said that, is it possible the he's stuck in some corner of the light? Do you have a dark carpet?
