want to learn about shrimp
hello all my kid asked me about doing a shrimp only tank :frustrated:. and i really have no idea what to do for set up care etc .. so we jointly agreed that a bit of research was in order and i am coming here first (as always).... soooo i have various tanks available
6x 10 gal
1x 20 gal
(not touching my 29 its a speacial project LOL)
i have sand that i like to use (now that i know how to care for it and how cheap it is LOL)
heaters , lights all the basics
so after the filter (with sponge i believe to avoid losing any)
and all of that what next???
you all are the best sooooooo help me out please..................
You can check out my shrimp farm pictures for ideas.
General set up that's much appreciated by them: Sand and bunch finer plants (Moss, Hairgrass, stargress these type plants).
I pers set up 10 g's for shrimp farms, wouldn't use the 20g and rather use it form someone like CPOs (Orange dwarf cray's) :-)
Bets kept around temps @ mid-70's
Best filter (for the tank size and shrimp) is a sponge indeed, here's the 1's I use on the 10g's https://www.petsolutions.com/Bio-Foa...10900+C23.aspx
As for lights, I use lil tubular screw ins, just enough to work for the plants but not blinding my shrimp lol
What else could I tell you?
feeding ... i need to know about feeding .. and thank you *wink*
oh and my goodness why would you ever buy a sponge filter they cost like 10 dollars to get enough supplies to make 10-20 of them..... i make all of my own sponge fiters
LOL I just ;looked for you thread again too, cause I realized I forgot feeding lol
Really anything with them guys goes, whatever you feed your fish, they eat it too, flakes, pellets, any frozen foods, cucumbers, dried pumpkin, sperulina....they eat it all, so you don't need no specialized food, just offer a variety of what you got at home for your fish and all is good.
But its superst easy to over feed them (and have your tank go noce down over it) so the easiest is: Feed the shrimp tank every 2nd day only.
Absolutely, you can also built a hamburger mattenfilter (punch in googel) they loooovvveeee feeding of the tall sponge....but if you're like me and just remodeled a whole house in the past 10 months...$5-10 and something is done sounds WONDERFUL to me right now lol
Oh and they love leaf litter to snack on. Anything goes but fruit trees and dogwoods, so any oak's or maples you can get leaf litter off will do. Dep on your area and possible pollution, just collect a bunch, boil them in hot water, spread out to let them dry and add a few at a time to your tank.
Sorry for coming back piece by piece here...but as soon as I leave the thread I think of something else lol
thats perfect thank you... and dont worrie about the piece by piece part but you may want to proof your post... just saying..LOL
I like the micro-wafers and regular flakes for my shrimp tank. May I suggest that you invest in a pair of magnification lenses? With magnification the shrimp's activities are much more easily seen, especially ghost shrimp. Cheers!
