My Zebra Danios and Red Phantom Tetras often hang out, entranced, on the right side of the tank staring at the glass. I presume they are seeing their own reflections, yet they are missing all the cool places ;-) to swim and hang out in the central parts of the tank.
During morning and evening hours, the ambient light comes from table lamps in the room and two windows. It enters the tank through the sides, and I imagine that reflections are most pronounced at these times. During the day, of course, the tank's own fluorescent is the primary source. With that "daylight" strictly overhead, I would expect the reflections to be less dramatic. Yet I believe I have observed the same behavior.
Is this normal?
I'm thinking about placing a dark cloth across the right side of the tank, just to see how they respond.
yeah try it and see :-D
