What does HOB mean?!!

What does HOB stand for? I googled it and got house of blues, among other things, nothing related to fish.

Hang on back, aka a power filter. A standard acronym in the hobby.

jimscott 02-08-2014 11:00 PM

Ah, okay, new to me. Just like LFS to me stands for Long Fibered Sphagnum, as opposed to Local Fish Shop.

lol, I used to be confused by the abbreviations, too. If you google search them with the word "aquarium" too, you'll come up with the answer more often, I've found ^__^

Good luck with your new setup!

I did as you suggested and just as you said, all these links came up for filters. It's been 9 years since I've participated in a fish forum, and I'm reacquainting myself with the vernacular. Back in the day, as it were, we just called them outside filters, to distinguish them from sponge or under gravel or box filters. That was also before bio wheels and when Dynaflos, Aquamasters, Aquakings, and Cosmic Power filters ruled.

lol, yes. A lot has changed!
We have an older thread somewhere Keeping tanks - then and now, an older thread, but you may find it interesting? Feel free to resurrect the discussion there, if you'd like.
You can also start a new thread on common abbreviations - maybe I can compile them into a sticky somewhere if you get a lot of replies!

I feel that a sticky of common tank lingo would be amazing. I'm actually going to go write one up now. What section should I post it on, Chesh?

jaysee 02-09-2014 10:01 AM

Wherever you want - they'll move it where they want it ;-)

Chesh 02-09-2014 10:05 AM

. . .NOOOOOOO! Don't make me work! >.<

Flint 02-09-2014 10:06 AM

Posting in Beginner Freshwater Aquariums would be the most helpful place I can see, is here okay, Chesh, or would you prefer it somewhere else?
