Rock Hygiene.

Hey guys.

I have loads of moon rock in my aquarium and was wondering if it needs cleaning of some sort?
If so would i clean it in the tank to keep the bacteria?

Thanks Dan

There's no special weekly maintenance to be done if that's what your wondering bout. Chnaces in new set ups are you MAY have beard alage develop, then you can take them out and scrub it off, but that's the only "cleaning" I could think of you needing to do.
Just normal weekly w/c.....

yeah i have noticed that there is a small green substance building up on the rock and artificial plants. i guess that is algae?

Is it bad or good?

Neither nor....Its a new set up, having alage develop until after your system is stable is VERY common (actually I think everybody has some type algae to some degree when first setting up their tanks).

I'd not worry, once the tank is stable it'll subside by itself once you have the proper balance between plants-lights-ferts

If it gets extremely worst thou, i'd get to the bottom of the cause and eliminate the cause of it. But I doubt its gonna get that far in your tank. If it does, shoot me a PM any time and I'll walk through the algae matter with ya :-)

thankyou v much! :-D

would it be a good idea to fill up a bucket of tank water and use that to scrum the algae off the rocks, and then pour the bucket back in the tank to keep the bacteria?

If you wanna scrub off the algae, take your rocks out take a hard bristle brush to them, clean them add back to tank. I'd not add the water back to the tank, in doing that you'd only send back all the scrubbed off algae to the tank and I doubt that's what you want :-)
