Suitable Tetra for Gourami?
I'm trying to find tank mates (pref Tetra's) that will do well with Kissing Gouramies (2) in my 55g; Water: pH 7.6 KH 5, also I'd like some Cory's (as always yeaaa) maybe a group of 8-10....
So I'm looking for someone who'd get along with both in the 55g, any thoughts?
Congo tetras should be able to hold their own and still not bother cory cats. I have also seen serpaes do well with kissing gouramis, and they also don't tend to bother cory cats. I would not mix serpaes with congos, though.
You might also consider blue tetras if you can get them large enough to not be food for the gouramis until the tetras are full grown. Blues are also known to be more aggressive tetras, get to a suitable size to not be eaten as adults, they're pretty, and can be wicked fast.
Sorry, those are the only 3 tetra species that are coming to me right now that could withstand kissing gouramis as they mature. Kissers do better with barbs and mild mannered cichlids such as the firemouth and kribensis.
I was reading up on the Congo's too last night along with Cherry Barb's and Blue Ram's......
Serpaes - Def not, need no fin nippers in the set ups :-)
Anyone else have any more input on the Blue Tetra's????
as far as blue tetras go, bettababy hit it head on...........very fast swimming and active ALL the time, my only concern would be your water's Ph..........Its a little high for most SA tetras.........I got shoal of 10 about a year ago for my 55 tetra tank and all are doing well.........It seems they can changes their colors instantly when excited (feeding time).............From what i read they are one of the more hardy tetras, so adding them first and give them some time to grow would probably be the best approach
Buenos Aries tetras get a little larger, but from what i read they would probably pester your gouramis to death, maybe someone with first hand knowledge could comment on them adn their tank attitudes........
My tap is 6.8 and KH 1...so I honestly after all these yrs do not take these parameters right now for written in stone, cause after all this 55g went trough over the past week, its safe to assume its far from anything right now, its stable yes NOW no more NO's nadda, but the pH & KH will still change with the w/c, that I'm very sure of.
For example the 45g (which was at some stage higher then the 55g) is now at a constant KH2 and pH 7.
From your exp with them fishing pole, would you think they would work in a set up (in a school) : Rosy Barbs, Kissing Gourami, Cory???
Buenos aires tetras are nasty, worse than serpaes when it comes to nipping and fin chewing. The bigger the school the worse the aggression.
I"m still dangling back & firth between blue tetra (and then a BUNCH of them) or a small group and then also Barbs...any input on that would be appreciated :-)
I may have found a match, input pls on
Inpaichthys kerri - Purple Emperor Tetra
Would you think they'd be a suitable match (thinking size here since they're not agressive fish) for 2 Kissing Gourami?
With 2 Kissings and group ~8-10 Cory cats, what number would you suggest for a good size group of them? Cause I'd really like to only have 1 large group of *someone* and the 2 Kissings and some cory in this 55g..
