Very small worms?
I have tons of specks in my tank. I was wondering what they were so, I looked very close at them and they looked like very small short fibers but, they were all wiggling. There are thousands if not millions of them in there. My small fish like my male guppies are just eating them like they are candy, but I don't know if I should do anything about them or if it's normal. Also, I don't know where they would come from. I have been only haveing the lights on for a few hours for the last week or so to control algae would that cause them to spread so quickly.
Googel image results for planarian , bet that's what you're talking bout. And no they're not harmful and yes most fish view them as snacks, not feeding your fish will downsize the planarian population quickly. You generally find these in tanks with a lot of uneaten foods on the bottom/ gravel. That leads to more issues in the long run then "only" planarian, so evaluate for yourself REAL careful if you may not be overfeeding your fish there and/ or feed too often :-)
As far as feeding is concerned for now I am only feeding them one time a day and very very little. I have been doing it that way for a week or so. Before that I was feeding 2 times per day and only as much as they would eat in just a few minutes a little at a time. Strange stuff! Thanks for you feedback by the way.
i second the wigglies. i got those alot in the tanks that i put tropical wafers in, because of how much gets lost in the gravel. angel is right, reduce the amount you feed, but if that doesnt help get a tiny bit more aggressive with your gravel cleaning. one or both will ultimately take care of the wigglies :)
Like I said they're not harmful, what I'd do if this was my tank, only feed every 2nd day now, that will support you fish snacking on them, then each week do a good gravel vac when you do your w/c.
You can keep up the every other day food forever won't harm you fish at all (99.99999% of tank kept fish do not die of starvation but overfeeding :-) )
