New 29gal fish tank I recieved a 29g fish tank and i am currently building the stand and buying proper equipment. I am planning on moving over my 5 zebra danios from my 10g to the 29g and adding 2 oto catfish, 2 angelfish, and 6 guppies to my 29g and keeping an oto catfish and my betta in the 10g. Is this a good set-up. The 29g has a hood with lighting built-in, 30-40lb of gravel, Top fin 20 and 30 for filtration, 2 100 watt heaters, fake plants(possible real plants in future), and decore. |
Hello & Welcome to the forum Thomas! The set up and plans in itself sound wonderful. The fish combo not so much. Angel's grow to be 10" and require to live in at least a 55g not only is your tank way to small, but also with adding the Betta and their long fins your Betta will not rest till the day they're dead. For the 2 named reasons I'd strongly urge you to not add Angels to this tank there. |
My betta will not be in that tank he will remain in the 10g not the 29g. I guess angelfish id out of the stocking list |

In my LFS the label says 3 in but im just going to drop the angelfish from the stocking list |
Sorry I misread that then, my bet. But regardless of that part, I'd still nt house them in anything less then 55g. And for you LFS info - They're sure some funny people there, unless they themselves recently worked in the lab to make some mini-Angels. That said be double careful when buying fish there, rather inform yourself first and then buy them or feel free to ask here, as you can see we're very honest people :-) |
Maybe the angels for sale are 3"? Well either way I'm not saying anything about having angels in a 29g. I have 3 in my 29, all pretty small so no issues yet. I also have 4 platys in there. I will most likely get a bigger tank before the angels get big but I do not see them having difficulties with the tank they're in now.. at least for now. |
otos do best in a tank that has a good algea supply as they dont do well with store bought foods they rely mostly on algea for their diet |

Im looking to get in a couple of years a 75g maybe bigger. My dad wants to get a 55g for the family tank but that is still planned for the future (when the reccession is over most likely) for now the biggest i will get is this 29g. |
