Gh and kh are high
So, I'm in Arizona and we have generally hard water. Now I took this into sons ideation, but when I just got my API tester, those results were frightening! Ph and nitrates also high...
Gh- 14 drops (chart only goes to 12 which is 214.8)
Nitrate- 40 ppm
Others are at 0, well ammonia might be .25
30 gallon(undergoing ich treatment):
Kh- 13 drops
Gh- 19 drops!!!!!!!
Nitrate- 80 ppm
Although last test I may have mixed up whichever tank is at what nitrate.
I am surprised how anything is alive... That oh is bad too, I even have driftwood in both tanks. The 20 has a sponge filter and the 30 usually has 2 carbon hob's running but currently it's floss for the ich treatment. Nothing has died in he 20 in a long time (maybe plants) in the 30 a few things died, I think from ich or treatment. Like my bs pleco and some cherry barbs.
My water is really hard, too, 14-16 gh and kh usually. I have some neons, though. It's fine, fish acclimate better to harder water than to softer water. (:
That good to hear :) what about the plants, though?
I haven't had any issues thusfar, I only have crypt wendtii and java fern at the moment, though. I was told not to worry about it, the plants will adapt. My LFS carries all sorts of plants, even DHG, so I'm sure it's not an issue. They even have discus. ;-)
Would angels and sharks be ok in hard water?
Yes, you just can't bring a fish that likes harder water than you have into your water. Acclimate and you can keep almost anything.
