do any of you guys meditate. ?

Not in any frequency, maybe 3 times in the past couple of years. I have done it in the past to help me relax and release work stress so that I can fall asleep. Youtube has some guided meditations if you are a novice.

I've tried a few times but I've never been able to shut my brain down enough to do it. :(

No. It might do me good, though.

meditation is a way of life.

My wife is from thailand and is buddhist. We meditate everyday. Its very beneficial to relax not only your body but also your mind. After meditation I feel calm, refreshed and motivated to finish the day strong. I can't imagine a better use of time. 10-20 minutes is more than enough time.

This is a golden Apsara , thought to bring wisdom to meditating minds, which is symbolized by the cup.

come over as believable :-(
thanks for sharing the picture of the golden Apsara.

In eastern meditation there is no visualization. The goal is to relax and settle the mind, then to be receptive to any and all thoughts that work themselves into your consciousness WITHOUT actually thinking or manipulating the thougjts yourself. Some of my best ideas for writing and literary theory have come that way. Just relax and let the thought play itself out. Takes practice but you get good at it quickly if you do it often.
Good luck!

ahhh i see….i think the problem was i thought i needed to concentrate
on the visualisation,as to just sit..the thoughts in my head were
rushing through like a steam train !….so what your saying is..
let the thoughts run their course ?

rsskylight04 02-06-2014 03:34 AM

That's the hardest part: to let the thoughts come and go without thinking ABOUT them or trying to controll. Most minds race like a jet engine, slowing down and relaxing does not come naturaly for most people . Best thing to start is to elax your muscles and slow your breathing. Then focus only on your breathing as a way of staying only in the present moment. Nothing else matters except the air as it enters and leaves your body . After a little while even the air becomes unimportant, the only thing that remains is the present moment. You'll be surprised by what your mind will show you if you take the time to relax and listen to it! The key to it all is to never try to hold on to a vision or idea. Never try to analyze of interpret your inner communications until your meditation is over. Try to keep yourself from thinking, you're just an observer for the moment. The quieter you can keep your mind, the more interesting and beneficial your meditation will be.

Hope your meditations lead to happiness, peace, and wisdom! AND, as always, good luck!
