What freshwater inhabitants will consume dead fish? As the title says :-) Just wondering. |
There are many, many, fish that will strip a dead carcass of dead or dying fish. Ideally you would remove dead fish before this happens to prevent the dead fish from fouling the water and thus reducing the quality of water in your, or whoever's aquarium. |
Most of them will. Fish, shrimp, snails. Since I keep generally small fish, often the will go missing because I don't get to them in time. Theres a lot of cherry shrimp that remove them. My caecilians will eat a dead tankmate too. If they are hungry. I normally find a fish before they do, if they do find it they push it around a lot. I have no issue with them eating it, half they time they will ignore it though. Fish are not what they normally eat. |
ok, interesting. I know ghost shrimp and snails will eat dead shrimp - as that's happened a number of times. Next day, there are fewer shrimp in the tank and no body is found, lol. Anyway, I had an oto that died, but he died (somehow, unless he was pushed in, as you mentioned - but I only had a betta) inside the tree stump decor in my tank. After about 2 days I found him, but he was unscathed. It didn't seem like the snail was interested... |
Anything lol. Except for an oto. Or a freshwater clam. |
everything will pick off of it dont know why but theres a answer for y9ou |
haha ok, thanks. I did, by the way, remove the dead oto before it stank up the tank :-p |
